The Canberra Raiders have announced former South Sydney Holden Cup coach Ryan Carr as Mounties coach for the 2018 Intrust Super Premiership NSW.
With the departure of Steve Antonelli from Mounties, who joins the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs as an assistant coach next season, it has opened up the role for Carr to take the reins. At 28 years of age, he Carr is one of the youngest elite Rugby League coaches.
The former halfback/hooker was a junior representative with the Cronulla Sharks before playing Holden Cup with the North Queensland Cowboys. Carr had spells with the Wests Tigers and South Sydney Rabbitohs at NRL level before eventually moving into coaching.
Carr is enjoying life in the ACT after reuniting with Raiders Head Coach Ricky Stuart.
"Ricky was the first-grade coach at Cronulla when I was coming through the junior reps system," Carr told Raiders.com.au.
"We knew each other back then and have kept in touch ever since and when I finished up at South Sydney last year he gave me a call and I came down to meet with him and Don (Furner) and I felt right at home straight away."
