The countdown to Origin is on – and we're celebrating this special time of year by counting down our favourite NSW Origin memories. With just eight days to go, here’s our eighth-placed all-time favourite Blues moment
Defeating Queensland at Suncorp Stadium whilst the series is still alive has proven to be a very difficult task for the NSW VB Blues who hadn’t accomplished the feat since 2005, particularly when the fans never give a welcoming reception.
In Game 1 of the 2014 series, Jarryd Hayne inspired the VB Blues to a courageous 12-8 defeat of the Maroons in their own backyard and the VB Blues players were not afraid to hide their emotions towards the hostile Queensland fans.
This photo shows Hayne, James Tamou, Trent Merrin and Josh Reynolds advancing towards the sea of maroon in the crowd to let them know who had just won the 2014 series opener.
It illustrates the extremely intense rivalry that NSW have with the Queenslanders, and how that passion has carried over from the players to the fans.
This moment is also special as it marked the first step for the NSW VB Blues to finally end Queensland’s eight-year Origin dominance.
