District Hills Bulls 30 (A Weston 4, A Overton, J Tongahai tries; J Boustani 3 goals) bt Mounties 24 (L Speechley, J Martin, Z Wedsweller, P Dumont tries; B Newton 4 goals)
Mounties eliminated from Sydney Shield Finals Series.
It’s fever pitch in the Sydney Shield finals with the final four teams battling it out for a dream Grand Final Spot at Pirtek Stadium on Sunday September 27th. In the two preliminary finals, the Peninsula Seagulls tackle the Hills District Bulls and Windsor Wolves face fierce adversaries, Wentworthville Magpies.
In the semi-final at Ringrose Park, the Windsor Wolves were too good, knocking the Belrose Eagles out of the Sydney Shield by a 34-16 score line. The win was bittersweet for the Wolves with Robbie Graham ruled out for the rest of the season after breaking his leg while scoring a crucial first-half try. It’s a tough task for the Wolves against Wentworthville, having lost both regular-season meetings.
“Last time we played Wentworthville we had a completely different side, a lot of kids, and this time around we have the side to get the job done,” said Wolves captain, Luke Atchison.
Despite the challenge, the Wolves are carrying plenty of confidence in their 2015 premiership aspirations. “I think we can,” Atchison said. “We just have to stick to our game plan and I don’t think any side can match it with the forward pack we have.”
In a hard fought battle, Hills District defeated Mounties 30-24, eliminating them from the Sydney Shield finals series at Belmore Sports Ground. Bulls speedster Aaron Weston was outstanding, scoring four of the team’s five tries. In a game that promises to be a cracker, the Bulls face the Peninsula Seagulls next Sunday at Leichardt Oval at 11am.
