The Sydney Metropolitan Women’s Rugby League kicked off this weekend with Round 1 games commencing in a Friday night Fixture at Forestville. Saturday saw games held at Cessnock, Berkeley Vale , Berala and Glenmore Park.

After going into half-time with just a two-point lead, Mounties dominated the second half to come away with the first win of the 2016 SMWRL season. The other two Division 1 matches completed were closely-contested, with Cronulla-Caringbah and the Hunter Stars coming up with Round 1 victories.

Division 2 saw a tough introduction to the SMWRL for Maroubra and Chester Hill, with Glenmore Park and Berala having convincing wins.
