The countdown to Origin is on – and we're celebrating this special time of year by counting down our favourite NSW Origin memories. With 10 days to go, here’s our 10th-placed all-time favourite Blues moment
Is this the truest reflection of everything that is Origin?
Never has the passion of rugby league's state-against-state battle been better encapsulated than when NSW Blues veteran Terry Hill came face-to-face with Queensland’s “Raging Bull” Gorden Tallis.
Game Two of the 1999 Origin series was played in front of a record 88,336 people – and the crowd witnessed a heated scuffle in the middle of Stadium Australia between the two fierce competitors just five minutes into the contest.
As Hill came up to play the ball from a Tallis tackle, the two came together. Vigorously arguing in each other’s faces and not shying away from direct eye contact, the teeth-clenching display summed-up exactly what Origin is about – two desperate sides, and two teams of 17 players, refusing to give an inch.
