As the traditional Rugby League season draws to a close, the NSWRL has launched three innovative ways to ensure the play goes on throughout the off-season. W8s, M8s and Friday Night 9s competitions – all casual, socially-orientated, midweek competitions – are to be rolled out across Sydney in coming weeks, with players of all ages and abilities catered for. Most importantly, all competitions will be provided by the NSWRL free of charge.
Friday Night 9s
Friday Night 9s sees under-17s and Open Age competitions compete in a nine-a-side format, with teams playing short, fast-paced games of nine minutes per half. Played on a full-sized field according to normal Rugby League rules, teams will play two games per night – and with a DJ and social atmosphere, there will be plenty of activity between games. Kids are invited to watch to cheer players on from the sidelines!
Simply get nine or so mates together and register a team; no coaches are required, just a nominated team contact. Non-Rugby League players are welcome and Junior League insurance is provided.
Each team will receive a set of different coloured T-Shirts that are to be worn during matches and these will be provided to each player free of charge. Note: A maximum of 15 players are permitted to register to each team.
