The Hawkesbury Race Club have generously raised $30,000 for the NSWRL’s Hogs for Homeless, supporting Chris Riley’s Youth Off the Streets.
Led by Vivienne Leggett and Graeme Colliss, the Hawkesbury Race Club set up a Christmas in July Charity Race Day, which raised $107,000 that was shared across three charities, plus the Hawksbury Living Cancer Trust.
There were over 38 tables and 300 attendees – including Steve Roach, Paul Sironen, Brad Fittler, Nathan Hindmarsh, Royce Simmons and Josh Perry - who took part in the day that had auctions and raffles to raise money.
The Hawkesbury Race Club have been helping out charities for nine years now, and are set on a primary goal of supporting the Hawksbury Living Cancer Trust.
“I’m a trustee along with Graeme for Hawkesbury Living Cancer Trust, which is getting oncology into Hawksbury hospital, and then once we raised the 1.5mil that we needed to have to fit out the hospital, we then wanted to start looking after other foundations,” explained sponsorship and corporate manager, Vivienne Leggett.
“And that’s when Graeme’s been working with Josh Perry and getting it all sorted, that’s how we started with Hogs For Homeless and Chris Riley Youth Off the Streets.”
In nine years, Vivienne and Graeme have raised $1.8 million for different charities.
“We’ve had a lot of support for the NRL, the SCG Trust the Hawksbury Race Club,” said Graeme.
“It costs a lot of money to do what we do but it’s all about raising money for the public.
“We do it for our charities, and the Hogs for Homeless coming on board this year was tremendous, they all weighed in and gave us a lot of prizes as well.”
The donation is the second significant fundraising effort to happen recently, with NSW True Blue Paul Langmack also raising more than $6,000 for Chris O'Brien Lifehouse for cancer research. Those funds came after Langmack, who himself is recovering from cancer, completed the City2Surf in aide of the cause.
