Minus the leadership and experience of veteran ex-captain Paul Gallen, Aaron Woods vows to step up to face the brunt of the Maroons pack.
Heading into what will be his 12th Origin appearance, Woods says he's the makings of a senior head amongst the group.
"When the big moments come, we need to take the right oppotunities," Woods says.
"[Winning] Game I goes a long way to winning the series. We did it in 2014, we do win the first game and we go back to Sydney.
"Obviously in the last couple of years we've had a few of the senior blokes move on. Myself and Boydy [captain Boyd Cordner] ... we've been in this squad for quite a while now ... the senior guys who have moved on taught us a lot about the culture of this jersey."
