Congratulations to NSWRL referee Todd Smith, who has been selected to make his debut as an NRL match official this weekend.
Hopefully I can progress to referee at that level.
Todd Smith
Smith, who has refereed in the Intrust Super Premiership NSW competition in 2018 and also acts as NSWRL’s Club and Competitions Coordinator – Northern Region, will act as a touch judge in the Panthers-Titans clash on Sunday.
“Todd has committed so much to achieving his goal of being an NRL official. With this goes a lot of sacrifices and personnel strain on all parts of his life but he has handled this so well,” NSWRL Referees High Performance Manager Stuart Raper says.
“He has developed into a professional official over the past few years. He is a hard trainer and completely focused on the job at hand. Through his role here in the NSWRL he also is able to give so much back to the district leagues with not only the competitions but also giving back his time to help develop officials for the future.
“Well done Todd and good luck on the weekend.”
Smith will be joined by fellow debutant Drew Oultram, who also progressed through the NSWRL system, in making his first-up NRL officiating appearance this weekend.
"I am really looking forward to making my NRL debut this weekend as a touch judge," Smith said. "It was a goal of mine to achieve this season and to do so is very rewarding.
"Now that I'll be gaining experience in the NRL as a touch judge, hopefully I can progress to referee at that level some time down the track."
