The Canterbury Cup NSW competition is rapidly approaching and True Blue and Channel Nine commentator Jamie Soward has cast his eye over all 12 teams for nswrl.com.au to find the winner for 2019.

The Newtown Jets will be out to avenge their Grand Final defeat to the Bulldogs and Jamie Soward has every faith that they can repeat their efforts with a second place finish in the Canterbury Cup NSW for 2019.

Their big-game experience in the 2018 finals series will prove invaluable moving forward, and such is their talent through the likes of William Kennedy, Kyle Flanagan and Blayke Brailey that they have a perfect chance to make history this season.

But while the trio may find themselves in Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks jerseys throughout the year, a host of off-season recruits will ensure consistency amongst the playing squad.

And Soward has highlighted the signing of Greg Eastwood as their most significant.

"Coach Greg Matterson has got a real Koo in 2019 after picking up the experienced signature of Greg Eastwood," Soward told NSWRL.com.au.

"The international has played so many games and so many big games...what he can bring to these young guys by teaching the young players (will) help them step up to the NRL squad at any time."
