Preview | Ron Massey Cup Grand Final 2019

It's a blockbuster Grand Final between the Wentworthville Magpies and St Marys Saints with both sides looking to etch their names in the history books.

Wentworthville Magpies v St Marys Saints
Saturday 28 September
Leichhardt Oval

The Wentworthville Magpies and St Marys Saints have once again cemented their place in the Ron Massey Grand Final, replicating the same match-up of the 2018 premiership clash where the Magpies took the honours with a 38-4 defeat.

Now on the hunt to claim the trophy for 2019, St Marys will draw on an advantage from their last meeting in Round 16, where they were victorious 22-8, reversing Magpies early season advantage from their round three victory (40-12).

They finished the regular season on the same competition points (38), with just a one-point for and against differential separating them, affected by the Saints huge 60-28 win against the Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles which pushed them to 358 against Magpies 359.

In the final battle, it will come down to Ron Massey Player of the Year and St Marys second rower Patrick Hollis to guide his team to their first Grand Final win and prevent the Magpies premiership hat-trick.

Coincidentally, the Magpies 38-4 winning scoreline in 2018 was identical to their victory over the Auburn Warriors in 2017.

Having won six premierships in the past 10 years (2009, 10, 12, 13,17,18) Wentworthville are the strong favourites but St Marys excellent form in the regular season, winning nine consecutive games makes them a huge threat.
