The New South Wales Rugby League has been saddened by the passing of Barry Cross following a long battle with illness.
Cross had a lifelong involvement with Rugby League as a coach, referee and mentor and was a revered figure, particularly in Sydney’s north.
He rose from the Manly Warringah Referees Association to be graded member #579 and went on to officiate as a touch judge in Grand Finals and Tests as well as being a first grade referee.
After retiring as an active member he was involved in the development of many referees at all levels, and was widely admired and respected for his work. A Life Member of the Manly Warringah Referees Association, he was also their Patron.
His sons Greg and Peter both achieved first grade status as players, the former with Manly and the latter North Sydney.
The NSWRL would like to extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends.
