The Panthers SG Ball side will go into Round Nine with the opportunity to end the season in second place if they can defeat the Newcastle Knights at Maitland on Saturday, with the match to be live streamed by NSWRL TV.
The Panthers currently sit in third position on the ladder and are just one win away from the top two positions. If they beat the Knights, and Sydney Roosters lose to the St George Illawarra Dragons, they could be looking at heading into the Finals as premiers.
The final round of matches in the Harvey Norman Tarsha Gale Cup and Harold Matthews Cup – Newcastle Knights v Penrith Panthers – will also be played at Maitland Sports Ground before the SG Ball Cup match.
Round Five NSWRL TV action in The Knock-On Effect NSW Cup has the sixth-placed South Sydney Rabbitohs taking on the 12th placed Dragons at Accor Stadium.
The Rabbitohs survived two tries by the Panthers in the final 10 minutes to run out 20-18 winners, off the back of strong attacking play earlier from five-eighth Jack Campagnolo, and fullback Jacob Gagai.
Hooker Peter Mamouzelos orchestrated his team around the park beautifully and was rewarded by scoring the Rabbitohs second try.
The Dragons are searching for their first win of the season after losses to the Eels, the Panthers, the Jets and the Eels again in Round Four.
