True Blue Luke Lewis casts his eye over another Englishman set to graduate from The Knock-On Effect NSW Cup into the Canberra Raiders’ NRL side this weekend.
Harry Rushton has been named on the bench for Canberra Raiders coach Ricky Stuart’s side as they take on premiers Penrith Panthers at BlueBet Stadium in Round Seven.
Rushton made the switch to the Green Machine for the 2021 season from Wigan Warriors, where he played just one game before making the move to Australia. Since then, Rushton has gone on to play 15 games in The Knock-On Effect NSW Cup, scoring five tries in the process.
The Short Side with Luke Lewis | Round Seven
A versatile forward who plays prop, lock or second row, Rushton has proved he is one to watch in 2022 after scoring three tries to go alongside two linebreaks, two try assists, seven tackle busts, 122 running metres per game and a whopping 40 tackles per game at 93.9% efficiency.
Rushton can get through a mountain of work but also has plenty of skill for a big man which he showed against Mounties in Round Five, when he kicked twice before diving on the ball to score a much-needed try for his side.
Lewy Says
“He’s coming up against a very high-quality side in the mighty Panthers but Canberra have found another great Englishman coming through.
“He usually plays up the middle of the field, he’s got a lot of great skills and is coming off the bench this weekend so I’m super excited about watching Harry Rushton play in his debut and hopefully he puts his hand up and can stay there throughout the season.”
