The NSWRL is urging all clubs, officials, volunteers and fans to pull on a pair of Crazy Socks this round and help raise awareness of the community work being undertaken through the Men of League’s Wellbeing Program.
To show its support for Crazy Sock Round which will be held from July 15-17, the NSWRL has already issued socks to all clubs in The Knock-On Effect NSW Cup, while all officials appointed to NSW Cup games this round will also don a pair. NRL clubs have also committed to wearing the socks in their training sessions, Captain’s Runs, or Round 18 matches.
“Crazy Socks is a fun way to raise awareness of the great work the Foundation does to support the men, women and children of the Rugby League community,” Men of League CEO Stephen Lowndes said.
“Our Wellbeing Program exists to support those who help put the game on the park each weekend and find themselves going through a rough patch. The clear message is, reach out if you need a hand.”
Men of League is celebrating its 20th year of operation in 2022 with the charity having spent more than $10 million on direct physical, emotional and financial support for those in the grassroots Rugby League community who are experiencing hardship. A further 10,000 hours has been committed by volunteers to face-to-face or virtual visits.
The National Wellbeing Program assists the volunteer coaches, managers, gear stewards, groundsmen, canteen operators, referees and club administrators who have made tireless contributions to their local Rugby League clubs.
The support can range from providing basic necessities including food and fuel vouchers, to medical and surgical costs, and home renovations for access and mobility purposes. It can also include something simple as a hospital visit or phone call for someone is struggling mentally or physically.
“Men of League epitomises all that is great about Rugby League in that we continue to care for our own as well as other people in the community who may be doing it tough,” NSWRL Chief Executive David Trodden said.
“The NSWRL gladly supports Crazy Sock Round and I encourage all Rugby League fans to get behind this great cause too.”
