Parramatta Eels have ended their season on a high note after taking down the second-placed Newcastle Knights 34-22 at Kellyville Park in the final round of the Jersey Flegg Cup.
The Eels got off to a flying start after Jontay-Junior Betham-Misa scored a try in the opening minute of the game. Corey Fenning converted for a 6-0 lead.
The Knights hit back through winger Keanu Wainohu-Kemp to reduce the margin to 6-4 before Fenning scored for the Eels to push the lead back out again to a converted try.
The home side of took charge with tries to Ryan Jones and winger Arthur Miller-Stephen; Fenning adding the extras to put the Eels up 22-4 and in control of the match at half-time.
They picked up from where they left off in the second half after Mac Puafusi stormed his way over for line with Fenning adding the extras.
The Knights rallied late with tries to Fletcher Sharpe, Thomas Cant and Mitch Henderson to close the gap to 28-22 and set up a thrilling finish with less than 10 minutes to go.
The Eels sealed the result when utility Jacob Davis scored the final try of the second half; Fenning landing the conversion to make it 34-22.
