Penrith Panthers and Wests Tigers have agreed to a swap deal that will see Tyrone Peachey return to the foot of the mountains while Charlie Staines will make the move to Concord.
Both Peachey and Staines will join their respective clubs on one-year deals for 2023.
True Blue Tyrone Peachey debuted for the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks in 2013 and played seven games before joining the Panthers where he played 109 of his 192 NRL games. He has made a name for himself as one of the most versatile players in the competition, having the ability to fill in at lock, centre, second-row, hooker and the halves.
Peachey’s versatility earned him a call up to the Brydens Lawyers NSW Blues for the 2018 series, where he featured in all three games for the 2-1 win which was coach Brad Fittler’s first year at the helm.
He joined the Tigers from the Gold Coast Titans for the start of 2022 but was unable to secure a regular first grade position. He played 13 NRL games in 2022, finishing the year with one try, 20 tackle busts, 11 offloads, and an average of 18 tackles and 50 running metres per game.
After coming through the Panthers pathways, Staines burst onto the scene in 2020 when he scored four tries in his NRL debut. Since then, he has gone on to play 38 NRL games for 23 tries. Staines was also a part of the Panthers Grand Final winning side in 2022, where he scored a try in their dominant victory over the Eels.
In The Knock-On Effect NSW Cup, Staines also made an impact for the Panthers, playing a total of seven games at both fullback and centre, finishing with one try, six try assists, five linebreaks, 25 tackle busts and an impressive 212 running metres per game.
