Fullback Fletcher Sharpe has been in and around the Newcastle Knights system since 2020 where he started in the Harold Matthews Cup.
Fast forward to 2022, and the local junior has climbed the ranks through SG Ball Cup and Jersey Flegg Cup, earning selection in the City Under 18s side and CABE Junior Blues along the way.
Tall and rangy with speed and footwork to match, Sharpe enjoyed a breakout season in 2022 where he was awarded the Knights SG Ball Players’ Player in a side oozing with talent.
While Sharpe was rewarded for his success at the Knights’ award night, his biggest on-field highlight came in Round Eight against the St George Dragons where he scored six tries in the Knights 76-0 victory.
Sharpe would go on to score another try in the Knights’ Round Nine victory over the Panthers, giving him an astonishing seven tries in two weeks.
After helping the Knights to second spot on the SG Ball Cup ladder and a Preliminary Final berth, Sharpe made the jump to the Jersey Flegg Cup where he scored four tries in three weeks during their finals campaign, including a memorable Grand Final try in a Golden Point loss to the Panthers.
The Country v City Under 18s clash also proved to be a fruitful opportunity for Sharpe, who played a pivotal role in City’s 42-18 victory, which included setting up arguably the try of the match when he linked up with halfback Ethan Sanders for a perfectly executed set play.
