South Sydney Rabbitohs introduced fans to several young talents in the past two years – Blake Taaffe, Davvy Moale, Peter Mamouzelos, Lachlan Ilias and Isaiah Tass to name a few – and 19-year-old Terrell Kalo Kalo is the latest prospect snapping at their heels in Redfern.
A rangy fullback and noted speedster, Kalo Kalo is the next outside back on the horizon at the Rabbitohs and could be right in the mix for higher honours in 2023 with Josh Mansour and Jaxson Paulo moving on.
Kalo Kalo began his Rugby League journey at the Glenmore Park Brumbies, a junior club that has helped produce the likes of Joseph Suaalii, Sarah Togatuki, Shaylee Bent and Sean O’Sullivan. Now the youngster has starred in the Rabbitohs’ pathways system over recent seasons.
Midway through 2021 he was re-signed by the club until the end of 2023 after just 20 junior representative games across the UNE Harold Matthews Cup and SG Ball Cup, coming up with nine try involvements, 12 line-breaks and 70 tackle busts.
Kalo Kalo played three more SG Ball matches in 2022 before making the jump to the Jersey Flegg Cup followed by a debut off the bench in Round Five of The Knock-On Effect NSW Cup.
Before he knew it, the Souths flyer was lining up in the fullback jersey for the NSW Under 19s against Queensland in June. In the 32-4 win he produced a line-break and five tackle busts from 159 run metres, including 45 post-contact.
Showing plenty of promise between fullback, centre and five-eighth in Under 21s, Kalo Kalo earned his first NSW Cup start in the No.1 shirt.
In 2023 he’ll certainly be aiming to add to that number of appearances in the red and green at the open age level, and possibly go one step further into the first grade fold.
