20 Stars for 2023 | Shannon Rose

Central Coast Roosters’ Shannon Rose is one of the Country Rugby League talents who made her way into the NRLW by season’s end in 2022.

Her stellar season began with the Roosters for their Women’s Country Championships-winning campaign, beating the Newcastle-Maitland Region Knights 14-6 at St Marys Leagues Stadium in April.

It was Rose’s performance which stole the show in the decider. She broke the line for their first try before scoring the match-winner to put her on the radar as a player to watch in the women’s game.

Rose made her debut for Central Coast in the Harvey Norman NSW Women’s Premiership; two games, 273 run metres and nine tackle busts later she was named in the NSW Country team for the Australian Women’s National Championships tournament.

NSW Country went on to win the tournament with the 25-year-old scoring two tries and setting up two more, making four line-breaks and 21 tackle busts, with one of those tries coming in the 24-0 victory in the Final.

At the back end of the season the Central Coast were unable to defend their NSW Women’s Minor Premiership, but the season highlight for the Berkeley Vale junior was still to come in the final round of the NRLW regular season.

It was Round Six between the Roosters and Parramatta Eels when Rose – along with NSW Under 19s star Jada Taylor and Angelina Teakaraanga-Katoa – made her NRLW debut in her hometown at Central Coast Stadium.

In 2023 Rose has a lot to look forward to when she reconvenes with Central Coast as they aim to return to finals in the NSW Women’s Premiership.

And as the NRLW competition expands to 10 teams, there’s every opportunity for the fullback to spend much more time in the top flight of women’s Rugby League.
