The NSWRL has congratulated True Blue Josh Reynolds on a decorated career after the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs half announced his retirement yesterday.
Reynolds played four games for the Blues and played a key role in helping NSW break an eight-year Origin drought during the 2014 series. Helping steer NSW to their first series win since 2005, Reynolds will always remain a part of the NSWRL history books.
“Josh Reynolds will always hold a special place in the history of the NSWRL after being a part of the 2014 squad that ended Queensland’s winning streak,” NSWRL Chief Executive David Trodden said.
"Josh always played with plenty of passion and typified what State of Origin is all about.
“He also had a great competitive spirit which helped deliver the Origin Shield to NSW for the first time in eight years.
“I congratulate him on his career and wish him all the very best for the future.”
Making his debut in 2011, Reynolds has played 144 NRL games for the Bulldogs and Wests Tigers, played in two grand finals and enjoyed two seasons over in England playing for Hull FC before returning to the Bulldogs in 2023 for one final season.
“I have played with some warriors in my time and have loved every minute of playing but I cherish the friendships I have made more than anything.” Reynolds said.
“All I can hope for in what any of my teammates that I have played with think of me, is that I’d do anything for them. On the field I competed until I couldn’t compete anymore, and that’s what I want to be remembered for.”
Reynolds will play his final game this Saturday in NSW Cup at a sold-out Belmore Sports Ground in front of 17,000+ fans who will farewell the club favourite.
With his final game being at Belmore, the five-eighth says finishing his career at the Bulldogs spiritual home was more than he could have hoped for.
“I know it’s a cliché, but this place has the best memories I’ve ever has in my whole career,” Reynolds explained.
“My mates, family, the fans – they hated me, they loved me, a bit of everything. It feels so much to me.
“I played my grand final there when I was seven years old, now to be able to play my final game here in a Bulldogs jersey is very special. It’s going to be a great day.”
In honour of the retiring playmaker, the Bulldogs have renamed the hill at Belmore ‘Josh Reynolds Hill’ for the upcoming game.
Reynolds will play his final game this Saturday, July 15 kicking off at 12:40pm.
