The Geyer name continues to live on at the Penrith Panthers with 22 year-old Mavrik Geyer extending with the club for a further two years.
The talented forward has made his presence felt in The Knock-On Effect NSW Cup this year with 50 tackle-busts in 18 games, along with 12 off-loads and an average of 28 tackles per game.
But this upgraded deal will have Geyer promoted to the Panthers NRL squad to complete the club’s top-30 for 2023.
“Re-signing with the club means everything to me," Geyer told the Panthers website.
"I’ve been here for the past two years training with the NRL squad and I’ve learnt so much already – hopefully I can start playing some NRL soon."
The contract extension has Geyer at the Panthers until at least the end of the 2025 season.
His father Mark Geyer played 135 games for the Panthers including the 2001 Premiership.
Mavrik already has a maiden Grand Final win being part of the 2022 Panthers Jersey Flegg Cup side and scoring a try in the nail-biting 19-18 win over the Newcastle Knights at CommBank Stadium last September.
A local junior, Geyer joined the club as a teenager and progressed from the club’s Harold Matthews and SG Ball sides to Jersey Flegg and NSW Cup – and now he has secured a NRL contract.
“This club means so much to me. I’ve lived two minutes from here my whole life.
"It’s where my dad played, it’s where my uncle played. This club is a second home to me, it’s like family.”
