Manly Warringah Sea Eagles head coach Anthony Seibold believes that Haumole Olakauátu is ready to be tested in the State of Origin arena.
Extending his stay at Manly until the end of 2031, Seibold believes the damaging back-rower is tailor-made for the Origin arena.
“We feel that Haumole’s best years are ahead of him and that he can develop into an elite player who can play at State of Origin level for the NSW Blues.” Seibold told seaeagles.com.au.
“He has already played at Test level for Tonga, but he is at that part of his career now where he can play State of Origin.
“If he plays State of Origin, it means he is playing consistent.”
Since making his debut in 2019, Olakauátu has made 73 first grade appearances and has now cemented his place in the starting side.
In 2023, the back-rower made 24 appearances, averaging 127 running metres, scoring 10 tries, making 11-line breaks, nine-line break assists and 689 tackles.
The 25-year-old will remain with the Sea Eagles for a further six years and they are hoping he will remain on the northern beaches for the long haul.
“Haumole is a high-quality player, and we love having him,” Seibold said.
“The club has invested in his long-term career.
“We want Haumole to be a one-club player.
“We feel Manly is the best club for Haumole and that he is the right person to invest in.”
