Young fullback Chevy Stewart is an emerging talent in the Canberra Raiders’ ranks after a stellar 2023 season with the club.
Signing with Canberra from at the start of that season from the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks, the now 18-year-old began the year playing in the UNE SG Ball Cup (Under 19s) before earning selection for the Jersey Flegg Cup (Under 21s) side.
Stewart was then quickly elevated to The Knock-On Effect NSW Cup, running for an impressive 138 metres in his Round Four debut against the Newcastle Knights.
Stewart’s early 2023 performances saw him selected at fullback in the CABE NSW Under 19s State of Origin side, where he amassed 59 run metres and 10 tackle-breaks as NSW defeated Queensland 32-14.
In addition to progressing up the ranks at Canberra, Stewart elevated his NSW Cup form in the back half of the season.
In his last 10 games Stewart scored seven tries and averaged 117 running metres, while also taking over goal-kicking duties.
He capped off his stellar season with a huge performance in Finals Week One, scoring a try and running for 169 metres as the Raiders defeated Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles 24-22.
Having extended his contract until 2027, expect Stewart to continue making strides for Canberra in the 2024 season and further.
