Newcastle Knights have announced today the contract extension of local junior Fletcher Sharpe to a full time NRL Development contract.
Originally contracted to the Knights until 2025, the young playmaker will now remain at the club until the end of 2026 having been promoted into the club’s top 30.
Sharpe played a starring role for the Knights during their 2023 UNE SG Ball Cup campaign, helping to guide his team all the way to a Grand Final appearance – where Newcastle narrowly went down 28-22 to the Parramatta Eels.
The Cessnock Goannas junior played fullback in all 12 games, scoring 12 tries and making nine line-breaks.
The 19-year-old finished the 2023 season playing Jersey Flegg Cup, where he made 11 appearances for eight tries and six line-breaks.
Newcastle Knights Director of Football Peter Parr said Sharpe will be a strong part of the Knights for many years to come.
“We believe Fletcher is a long term NRL player in the making and we are delighted he has committed to an extension of his contract,” Parr told newcastleknights.com.au.
“Fletcher is a home-grown player who has progressed through our Pathways system, and we are excited for the next phase of his career.”
