Heading into his first Ampol State of Origin Series decider, Westpac NSW Blues halfback Mitch Moses knows the challenge that waits for him come Wednesday night.
Since making his debut for the Blues back in 2021, Moses will play in his first decider in five Origin matches and will be hoping he can bring the shield back to NSW for the first time in three years.
Despite having a Player of the Match performance in Game Two at the MCG three weeks ago, the halfback knows he virtually starts from scratch at Suncorp Stadium next Wednesday.
“That game is gone and that game means nothing,” Moses said.
“I guess you get confidence from it definitely, but it means nothing, I can come out and have the worst game.
“So I need to come out and back it up.”
Moses understands that heading to Brisbane for an Origin decider is no easy task but says the team understands what is waiting for them once they arrive ‘behind enemy lines’ so to speak.
“It’s a big opportunity … a big opportunity not just for myself but for everyone,” Moses said.
“One-to-17 players who are going out there, it’s a massive opportunity for us to go up there and win the series.
“It’s going to be a big challenge; they are going to come out fired up and we’re going to have to match them.”
Wednesday night will be the third time that Moses has played alongside halves partner Jarome Luai in the Origin arena.
The two combined sensationally at the MCG - creating four try assists, three forced dropouts, two-line break assists and 614 kick metres.
Moses and Luai will be looking at breaking a 19-year drought – the last time NSW won a decider at Suncorp, however the No.7 believes they have what it takes to do what many have said to be ‘mission impossible’.
“Romey is a champion,” Moses said about his No.6.
“I think we’ve gotten along really well during these camps.
“I think our combination at the moment is really blossoming. We’ve got to take that out and obviously it was a good one Game Two but we need to back it up and do it in Game Three.
“There’s no better challenge for us to go up there do it in front of a whole Queensland crowd and try to put in our best performance and win the series.”
