Jones commits to the Knights for another three years

Former NSW Under 19s State of Origin half Evie Jones has been contracted to the two-time NRLW premiership winning Newcastle Knights for another three years.

The Muwellbrook teenager is among new Knights coach Ben Jeffries top 24 squad for this year’s NRLW competition, which kicks off on Thursday (25 July) with the Knights hosting the Sydney Roosters at McDonald Jones Stadium.

Jones (above, Photo: Bryden Sharp) was the No.7 for the NSW U19s team in 2023 and wore the No.6 jersey for the Knights in this year’s Westpac Tarsha Gale Cup Grand Final, losing to the Illawarra Steelers (24-12).

She was also the No.14 utility for NSW Country U19s in May for their 26-18 win over NSW City.

The 19-year-old has now extended her stay at the Knights until the end of 2027.

Jeffries said Jones’ signature added versatility and competition within the Knights squad.

“Evie has established herself as a half who is willing to learn and compete with the likes of Jesse Southwell and Georgia Roche,” Jeffries told newcastleknights.com.au

“Through the back end of the Tarsha Gale season and representative teams this year, Evie also added dummy half qualities to her game, showcasing her potential to become a genuine utility player.

“We now look forward to developing Evie into a long-term Knights player and we are delighted to secure her future at the club for a further three seasons.”
