True Blue and two-time NRL premiership winner Anthony Minichiello has added his voice to encouraging Rugby League fans to nominate one of their local heroes for the 2024 Philips Community Sports Dad of the Year.
Minichiello said it didn’t matter whether it was dad coaching juniors, carpooling to games or training, fundraising, working the BBQ, or just cheering from the sidelines.
“Every effort counts and deserves recognition,” Minichiello said.
“As a professional athlete and a dad, I know first-hand the positive impact sports can have on kids' lives."
Previous Sports Dad winners have included NSW Blues Damien Cook (2022), Adam Reynolds (2020) and Minichiello himself (2014) the year after he captained the Roosters to the 2013 NRL Premiership win over Manly Warringah Sea Eagles.
Last year’s winner was father-of-four Greg McKervey who volunteers at the Cobar Junior Soccer Club, in central-western NSW.
Sponsored by household products company, Philips, the winner receives a Philips grooming pack and a $5,000 Rebel Sports voucher for their club.
Nominations close on 18 August, with the winner announced in time for Father’s Day on Sunday, 1 September.
