Paseka keeps piling on the tries

Illawarra Steelers winger Maria Paseka scored her third double for the 2024 Harvey Norman NSW Women’s Premiership season in her side’s 36-0 whitewash of the Central Coast Roosters last weekend.

Paseka scored the opening two tries for the Steelers as they raced to an 18-0 lead in Round Five action to keep a firm grip on second position on the ladder.

The NSW Under 19s State of Origin winger (pictured above) has racked up seven tries in five matches, her double last Saturday adding to two tries in Rounds Two and Three.

That is after scoring a try in the Steelers premiership-win in the 2024 Westpac Tarsha Gale Cup Grand Final over Newcastle in April.

Paseka was also among the try-scorers in the 46-4 win over the Queensland Under 19s side in June at Leichhardt Oval.

But it is Wentworthville Magpies sitting pretty at the top of the Harvey Norman table with their undefeated run extending after a 18-10 win over the Manly Sea Eagles.

A successful penalty goal for Wenty’s Sarah Colman broke a 10-10 deadlock midway through the second half. But then a try to second rower Leilani Wilson with nine minutes left on the clock secured the Magpies fifth win on the trot.

Defending Harvey Norman Premiership champions Mounties moved into third spot on the ladder with another tight win (24-18) over South Sydney.

Centre Relna Wuruki-Hosea scored towards the end of both halves to give Mounties the edge after they led by only four points (16-12) at the break.

Newcastle Knights moved into the top-four with a strong 20-0 win over St George leap-frogging Canterbury-Bankstown and Manly to secure a finals spot.

Only the top-four teams progress to the 2024 Harvey Norman Premiership Semi-finals in September.
