St George winger Mia Barber scored half her side’s points as the Dragons begin to threaten for a top-four finals spot after their 24-12 win over Mounties in Harvey Norman NSW Women’s Premiership action this weekend.
It was a costly loss for the defending premiers as Mounties dropped from third to sixth spot on the ladder with five rounds left until the Semi-finals in September.
Barber scored the opening try for the Dragons and then booted four from five goals for a 12-point personal tally.
Mounties are in a battle with the Manly Sea Eagles, who enjoyed a 28-4 win over South Sydney today, and St George for that fourth and last finals spot.
Only the top-four teams go through to the Harvey Norman Premiership semis – the winners moving into the grand final on Sunday 29 September.
Top of the ladder Wentworthville continued their winning ways with a sixth straight win, and a competition-defining one at that, beating the second-placed Illawarra Steelers 26-16.
But these two meeting in the grand final may not be a fait accompli with the third-placed Newcastle Knights now drawing level with the Steelers on eight competition points after their 44-14 win over the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks.
The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs are also on eight points after a healthy 34-14 win over Parramatta Eels.
At the other end of the scale, the Wests Tigers were searching for their first win in 2024 but a last-minute field goal for halfback Melanie Watherston consigned them to a 15-14 loss to the Central Coast Roosters.
