The NSWRL is gearing up for a month of Grand Final action in September with the deciders to be held for almost 50 Community Rugby League competitions around the state.
It wraps up another successful season for grassroots football for the NSWRL with participation rising by almost five per cent to more than 117,000, with males topping 87,000 for the first time while females recorded a growth of more than 14 per cent to reach almost 30,000 participants.
The number of total participants to date compared with 2023 is 117,175 (4.6 per cent increase from 112,767); male participants have risen to 87,489 (1.7 per cent increase from 86,580); while female participants are at 29,686 (14 per cent increase from 26,187).
“Congratulations to all players, volunteers, officials and supporters who will be part of the Grand Final action across the state. It’s an exciting time for communities to come together and support their team,” NSW Community Rugby League Manager Peter Clarke said.
“Special acknowledgment and thank you for our wonderful network of volunteers who are invaluable to community sport and make the various events possible.
"There are various metro Junior League Grand Finals, or regionally if you are in the far west we have the Cobar Roosters hosting the Coolah Kangaroos in the Castlereagh League Grand Final, with Coolah bolstered by their home-grown Burgess brothers.
“In the east on the mid-north coast we have the Tyrone Roberts-Davis-inspired Nambucca Roosters aiming to break their premiership drought taking on Woolgoolga Seahorses in the Group 2 decider at Coffs Harbour.
"This is just a snapshot of the great Grand Final action we have coming up over the next month. We are expecting bumper crowds at various venues and I encourage all fans to get to a game and enjoy the atmosphere.”
The 48 competitions represented include men’s Open Age, women’s Open Age, and boys and girls of various age groups.
They stretch as far as the NSW central west (Castlereagh League), the NSW far-north coast (Northern Rivers Regional Rugby League), south-west NSW (Group 9) and Sydney areas including Balmain, South Sydney, Canterbury-Bankstown, Cronulla-Sutherland and Penrith.
The Grand Finals have already been held for some community Rugby League competitions including Group 14, Group 19 JRL, Barwon Darling, Outback Rugby League, Group 16 and the Woodbridge Cup.
