Finals Week Three wrap: Ron Massey Cup

Glebe Dirty Reds have ended St Marys Saints hopes of claiming back-to-back Leagues Clubs Australia Ron Massey Cup titles after defeating the Premiers 24-10 in the Preliminary Final at St Marys Leagues Stadium today.

Despite going down to the Minor Premiers twice during the regular season, Glebe claimed their most important win of the season. The Dirty Reds will now switch their focus to the Wentworthville Magpies who they will in the 2024 Grand Final at Leichhardt Oval next Saturday.

Preliminary Final: (4th) Glebe Dirty Reds 24 def. (1st) St Marys Saints 10

Saints wasted no time opening the scoring, with halfback Zac Greene kicking a perfectly weighted grubber into the in-goal area for second-rower Anton Iaria to score (4-0).

Iaria was involved in the next try too for the Saints, after kicking to the corner for centre William Fakatoumafi to regather and score (10-0).

Glebe got on the board in the 15th minute, when the ball was spread across to the right before centre Iverson Fuatimau took advantage of the space out on the sideline to score (10-4).

Glebe levelled the score right on half-time with Fuatimau racing down the field to score his second of the day to leave both teams locked up at 10-all as they headed into the sheds.

The second half started with both teams struggling to find momentum after making a handful of unlikely errors.

Glebe broke the deadlock in the 59th minute, after a knock-on from the Saints on the fifth play saw winger David Nofoaluma regather the ball and score under the posts (16-10).

The Dirty Reds extended their lead when five-eighth Joseph Whitikama Temara Taipari slotted a penalty goal in the 63rd minute.

Glebe hooker Craig Garvey put the final nail in the coffin in the 77th minute, breaking through the defence before passing the ball back for his prop Callum Ellis to seal a 24-10 win.
