NSWRL to host 40 First Nations teenagers for TAAP camp

The NSWRL will welcome 40 First Nations teenagers from around the state to the NSWRL Centre of Excellence tomorrow for the three-day Talented Aboriginal Athlete Program (TAAP) camp.

The camp includes 33 teenagers from outside the Sydney metropolitan area, who will come from as far south as Wagga Wagga, north to Ballina, and past Dubbo in the far west. They will be joined by 10 First Nations officials for a referees program, with five female officials also taking part.

The TAAP camp participants were identified from the Koori Knockout, club Rugby League and schoolboy Rugby League.

The camp will address topics including culture, values and mental fitness with training sessions also to be held before a match is played at the NSWRL Centre of Excellence on Sunday 8 December.

The coaching staff includes former NRL player and NRLW coach Dean Widders, and former Rugby League players Scott Mieni and Dennis Moran.

A team will be selected at the conclusion of the camp for a First Nations representative pathways match in 2025.
