The winner of two NSWRL Major Competitions grand finals, Liam Ison, has signed a two-year extension with the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks taking him to the end of 2027.

The young fullback, who turns 20 next week (Photo above: Bryden Sharp), made his NRL debut with the Sharks in Round 21 this year.

He won The Knock-On Effect NSW Cup Premiership with the Sharks feeder team, Newtown Jets, last September over the North Sydney Bears and won the Jersey Flegg Cup (Under 21s) Premiership with the Penrith Panthers in 2023 against the Sydney Roosters.

The elusive No.1 made 110 tackle-busts in 17 matches in NSW Cup this past season, alongside 10 tries, 11 try-assists, and nine tackle-busts in the Jets 14 wins.

The St Marys Saints junior is now established at the Sharks and looking forward to continuing his development under the tutelage of NRL mentor Craig Fitzgibbon and his coaching staff.

"It's unreal. I'm so excited," Ison told sharks.com.au

"There's something special in this group and I can't wait to be part of it going into the next couple of years.

"We had a fairly dominant team in every grade that I played in this year. The depth here at Cronulla is unbelievable and I'm grateful to be part of it.”

Sharks General Manager Football Darren Mooney said: "Liam works extremely hard, is always striving to improve and has an old head on young shoulders.

"He's handled every step up in grade impressively and has a bright future in the NRL. We're pleased he's recommitted to our club and look forward to watching him progress."
