True Blues Boyd Cordner, Andrew Fifita and Vanessa Foliaki, and current Westpac NSW Blues Women’s Origin player Keeley Davis, will begin their coaching journeys when the NSWRL season kicks off tomorrow (Saturday 1 February) with the start of Junior Representatives Competitions.

Cordner, who played 16 games for NSW and captained the Blues to series wins in 2018-19, will be at the helm for the Sydney Roosters in the UNE SG Ball Cup, while Fifita, who played 10 games for his state, will coach Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks in the Westpac Tarsha Gale Cup.

Davis, who has played seven games for NSW, will coach the Sydney Roosters in the Westpac Tarsha Gale Cup, with NSW teammate Corban Baxter, who has represented her state 10 times, joining her as an assistant coach. Foliaki, who played six games for NSW, will coach the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs in the Westpac Lisa Fiaola Cup.

Other True Blues continuing their coaching journeys in Junior Representatives Competitions in 2025 include Steve Turner (Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, UNE SG Ball Cup), Shaun Timmins (Illawarra Steelers, UNE SG Ball Cup), Mark O’Meley (Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, UNE Harold Matthews Cup) and Steve Simpson (Newcastle Knights, UNE Harold Matthews Cup).

“It’s always great to see current and former players becoming involved in our pathways programs as coaches,” NSWRL Head of Competitions Yvette Downey said.

“These players have enjoyed, or are still enjoying, their Rugby League careers and are now giving back to the game by sharing their own experiences to help the next generation of players.”

The metropolitan Junior Representatives Competitions will start tomorrow for the UNE SG Ball Cup (Under 19s Men), Westpac Tarsha Gale Cup (Under 19s Women), UNE Harold Matthews Cup (Under 17s Boys), and Westpac Lisa Fiaola Cup (Under 17s Girls).

The following weekend (Saturday 8 February) the regional Junior Representatives Competitions will start for SLE Laurie Daley Cup (Under 18s Boys), Westpac Lisa Fiaola Cup (Under 17s Girls) and SLE Andrew Johns Cup (Under 16s Boys).

The popularity of women’s Rugby League continues to grow with the Canberra Raiders fielding a team in the metropolitan competition for the Lisa Fiaola Cup for the first time in 2025.

“Our Junior Representatives Competitions are vital as they are a breeding ground for the future stars of Rugby League,” Downey said.

“Every season we see players taking their first steps to representative honours for their club,  district or region, and I believe the NSWRL offers the best development competitions of any sport in the country.

"It’s always exciting to watch the journey of our junior players who might progress to have careers in the NRL or NRLW and I’m looking forward to the season starting tomorrow.”
