Wrapping up all the action from another bumper weekend of Junior Reps.
Regional Reps kick-off, Daley Cup thriller
The NSWRL’s Regional Junior Representatives season got underway on the weekend, with the opening round of fixtures in the SLE Andrew Johns Cup (Under 16s boys), Westpac Regional Lisa Fiaola Cup (Under 17s girls) and SLE Laurie Daley Cup (Under 18s boys).
Among those games was a thrilling contest between Newcastle-Maitland Region Knights and North Coast Bulldogs at Kurri Kurri Sports Ground to kick off the Daley Cup.
Within a few minutes the Dogs found the lead through halfback Toby Batten, before Knights winger Talen Balcombe hit the scoreboard moments later.
The hosts continued to build momentum for the remainder of the first half crossing for another three tries along with five-eighth Kyran Blair’s four conversions, taking a 24-6 lead to the break.
Crucially the Bulldogs opened the second-half scoring with Koby Toomey making an impact from the interchange, but five minutes later the Knights added another four points with Balcombe’s second for the day and were ahead 28-12.
Centre Zayne Shutes scored next for the visitors to stay alive, before No.6 Rielly Laverty produced a late double – dragging over a defender on the short side for his first, then jinking through a gap from 15 metres out to level the scores.
It left Batten nailing a fifth conversion from as many attempts to take a 30-28 lead as the Bulldogs hung on for the final eight minutes and the comeback win.

Roosters and Eels share the spoils in SG Ball
The Sydney Roosters and Parramatta Eels went head-to-head at Mascot Oval in Round Two of the UNE SG Ball Cup (Under 19s), coming away with a 22-all draw and one competition point.
Both sides went into Saturday’s clash looking to add to strong Round One victories respectively, yet found themselves battling for the winning edge right until the full-time whistle.
After just five minutes the Roosters were up 10-0 after two quick tries for back-rower Lachlan Dooner and centre Jackson Stewart.
The Eels then worked their way back into the contest when Lorima Saukuru dived on a loose ball to score in the 11th minute, later followed by a leaping effort from winger Dominic Farrugia before halftime (10-10).
Hooker Jaxson Allen darted out of dummy-half for the next Roosters try, before Eels playmaker Lincoln Fletcher caught onto an offload to score for the visitors. Parramatta went ahead with six minutes left as No.11 Christopher Petrus crossed (22-16).
The Roosters levelled the scores shortly after courtesy of Allen again, then a late conversion from halfback Tyson Walker.

Dragons fight back in Lisa Fiaola clash
The St George Dragons headed to Redfern Oval for Round Two of the Westpac Lisa Fiaola Cup, but were faced with a 6-0 halftime deficit if they were to claim victory against South Sydney Rabbitohs.
Following a tough outing the week prior against Illawarra Steelers, then a fourth-minute try from Rabbitohs prop Victoria Loleni, the Dragons staged a second-half fightback to secure their opening win for the season.
No.25 Daniella Barton was first on the scoresheet for the visitors at the 37-minute mark, and the visiting side hit the lead shortly after when winger Urshela Kohunui crossed the try-line (10-6).
South Sydney looked set to snatch a 12-10 win after a try for fullback Tayla Donovan and go-ahead conversion from half Remy Roper, but St George had the final say in the last minute of the contest when hooker Monique Marshall snuck over from close range. Telina Adams’ second conversion completed the 16-12 victory.
