Canberra Raiders have announced the signing of back-rower Jordyn Preston, who will join the national capital team for the 2025 NRLW season.

The signing news comes off the back of a big 2024 season for Preston, who made her NRLW debut for the St George Illawarra Dragons along with playing an instrumental role in the Illawarra Steelers premiership-run for the Harvey Norman NSW Women’s Premiership trophy.

Being named Player of the Year for the Steelers last year, the 22-year-old had 11 games, scored six tries, made nine line-breaks and one try-assist.

Raiders NRLW head coach Darrin Borthwick said he was excited to have such a versatile player like Preston join his top-24 squad for the upcoming season starting on 3 July.

“She’s got a good work ethic,” he told raiders.com.au

“Part of her story is that she started on the wing, moved into the centres, is now playing back-row and I’m quite comfortable she could move into the middle and do a good job.

“While she is very young still, she’s quite level-headed as well,” Borthwick said.

“I think that level of maturity will be good for our squad. She’ll complement us footy-wise, but she’ll also do a really good job with how we carry ourselves as a team as far as attitude and all those things that we look for.”
